{"id":23048,"date":"2016-08-16T10:56:05","date_gmt":"2016-08-16T09:56:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/itrc3.wpengine.com\/?page_id=23048"},"modified":"2016-08-16T10:56:05","modified_gmt":"2016-08-16T09:56:05","slug":"flooding","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/www.arcc-network.org.uk\/extremes\/flooding\/","title":{"rendered":"Flooding"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Our flood-related work focuses specifically on the built environment and infrastructure.<\/p>\n<h2>Research projects<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"\/downpipe\/\">DOWNPIPE<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 adaptation of property drainage systems to cope with predicted changes in high-intensity rainfall events with implications for flood management.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/arcadia\/\">ARCADIA<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 understanding the inter-relationships between climate impacts, urban economy, land use, transport and the built environment to help design cities that are more resilient and adaptable.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/retrofit2050\/\">Retrofit2050<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 understanding urban scale retrofitting to promote managed socio-technical transitions in built environment and urban infrastructure.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/crew\/\">CREW<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 adapting UK dwellings; a tool to assist when choosing retrofit adaptations.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/snacc\/\">SNACC<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 developing a portfolio of adaptation strategies for suburbs including building-level interventions and broader strategies.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/lucid\/\">LUCID<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 helped to understand the impact of local urban climate on energy use, comfort and health with the emphasis on London.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"\/scorchio\/\">SCORCHIO<\/a>\u00a0\u2013 developed prototype tools to help planners to adapt urban areas, with a particular emphasis on heat and human comfort.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Flooding &amp; SMEs<\/h2>\n<p>Following on from the\u00a0<a href=\"\/crew\/\">CREW<\/a>\u00a0project, the Centre for Disaster Resilience at the University of Salford examined the impacts of flooding on SMEs through a series of case studies. The studies focused on the effects and lessons learned by businesses in Braunton, north Devon after floods in 2004 and 2012.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcc-network.org.uk\/wp-content\/pdfs\/SME-resilience-Braunton-Dec2015.pdf\">Investigating SME resilience to flooding \u2013 the Braunton report<\/a>\u00a0(pdf, 4 MB)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Environment Agency\u00a0flood risk data<\/h2>\n<p>The Environment Agency has provided flood risk data from rivers and seas.
